Tad Thomas Bagley, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, born on March 15, 1965, went home to be with Our Lord early on the morning of his 44th birthday, March 15th, 2009 in an automobile accident.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Bonnie Lee, Mother (Marcia Mott Thomas), Stepfather (Norman Thomas Jr.), Father (George Dale Bagley), Sisters (Marla Scheffler and Aschley Thomas), Grandparents (Blanche Mott, Eloise Bagley and Norman Thomas, Sr.)
Tad's extended family members are Kenneth and Sue Andrus, Brothers (Aaron, Zack and Nick Andrus). Also there are a multitude of Uncles, Aunts, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and In-Laws (Mott, Binford, Matson, Andrus, Kane, and Winterbottom).
Tad was a Very Gentle and Loving Soul. He Will Be Greatly Missed By All.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 at Victory Church, 180 Center St., Troy, Pa. with Pastor Joshua Payne officiating and Kenneth H. Robertson (Morse and Kleese funeral director). Viewing at 10:00 am. Funeral at 11:00 am.

During the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, Jean Elizabeth (Mott) Holcomb, a lifelong resident of LeRoy Township, died quietly at the Bradford County Manor. She was 75 years of age. Born Oct. 30, 1927, in LeRoy Township, she was one of six children in the family of Wesley and Alma (LaMont) Mott. Jean attended the LeRoy schoolhouse, and later Canton High School, graduating with the class of 1944. She was courted by a local young man named Raymond Holcomb, and on Oct. 2, 1947, they were united in marriage at the Canton Church of Christ parsonage by the Rev. Rosterfer. Together they raised a son and a daughter. Mrs. Holcomb was employed for many years as a machine operator with Canton Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1989. But even though she worked outside the home she was the consummate homemaker, tending to her family's every need. In her spare time Mrs. Holcomb enjoyed knitting and gardening. She had been a member of the Open Hand Grange as well as the former LeRoy Lady Rebekah Lodge. Mrs. Holcomb had been a member of the former LeRoy Church of Christ, and more recently attended the LeRoy Independent Baptist Church. She had been active with the Canton Senior Citizens, and during the years they shared their facility with the Bradford-Tioga Head Start she would knit mittens for all of the little children in the program. She had been an active participant in the LeRoy Old Home Day festivities each July 4, often baking the cakes to be given as prizes to the winners of the Cakewalk. She was also an active volunteer at the Bradford County Farm Museum in Troy for several years. Mrs. Holcomb was known throughout her community as one who was always ready to lend a helping hand. Most of all, she was devoted to her family, involving herself in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Holcomb is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond, at home; son, David and Krystine Holcomb of Canton RR 1; daughter, Jane Holcomb of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Bryan Holcomb, and granddaughter, Jennifer Holcomb, of Canton RR 1; brother, Robert Mott of Troy; sisters, Dorothy Smithgall of Canton and Mary Lou and Jim Chadwick of Camptown; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Alma Mott, and sisters Bernice Holcombe and Marion Holmes. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the LeRoy Independent Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Morrison and the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Contributions in Mrs. Holcomb's memory may be directed to the LeRoy Community Association Memorial Fund, RR 1, Box 261, Canton, Pa. On the morning of Saturday, May 19, 2012, LeRoy native
Raymond Leo Holcomb died quietly at Bradford County Manor. He was 93 years of
age. Born in LeRoy on Sept. 21, 1918, he was a son of Ray and Lena
(Whipple) Holcomb. Young Raymond attended the former LeRoy Elementary School
and later Canton High School, graduating with the class of 1936. During the
Second World War he served with the United States Army, first as a combatant
and later as part of the occupation force, from 1944 to 1946. After returning
home Raymond courted a local LeRoy girl, Jean Mott, and the two were united in
marriage on Oct. 2, 1947. Together they raised a son and a daughter and shared
55 years until her passing in January of 2003. For most of his working life
Raymond was a self-employed carpenter along with his brother Dean until his
retirement. In his free time Raymond enjoyed gardening and woodworking, as well
as playing cards with the Thursday Night Boys, Jimmy Tomlinson, Ted
Tomlinson, Dean Chaapel and Dick Bellows. Raymond was a man of faith who came
to know the Lord while attending the former LeRoy Church of Christ. It was a
faith that would grow and endure through the years. He was a member of the
LeRoy Community Association and had been a member of the former LeRoy Odd
Fellows. Of paramount importance was his family, whose visits and interactions
always gave him great joy. He is survived by his daughter Jane
Holcomb of Dallas, Texas; son David Holcomb of Canton; grandchildren Bryan
(Brittney) Holcomb of Ft. Polk, La., Jennifer Holcomb; great-granddaughter
Marley Holcomb and sister-in-law Dorothy Smithgall, all of Canton; and brother-in-law
James Chadwick of Camptown, Pa.; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his wife Jean Holcomb; brothers Newton and Dean Holcomb;
sisters, Olive Ferguson and Rosalie Holcomb and parents Ray and Lena
Holcomb.; A celebration of Raymond's life will be held at a later
date and will be announced by Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center

Mrs. Marion M. Holmes, 33 Fassett Street, died Friday evening , August 3, 1962, after a long illness. She was 43.
Mrs. Holmes had been employed by Westinghouse in Elmira, N.Y. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Canton.
She also was a member of the Canton lodge of Women of the Moose. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Thomas McConnell, Canton;
a son James Shoemaker, Troy; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Mott, LeRoy; four sisters, Mrs. Raymond Smithfail, also of Canton,
Mrs. Raymond Holcomb, LeRoy, and Mrs. James Chadwick, Camptown; a brother, Robert Mott, of Troy, and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Morse's with her pastor, the Rev. H.C. Humpke, officiating.
Burial will be in the Mott Cemetery at LeRoy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

William B. Kelley (1892-1912)
William Kelley, who was instantly killed in
Wm. Fraser’s mines at Carbon Run, February 27th, was the son of Edward and Lucy
Morse Kelley of this place. The remains were brought to the home of his
uncle, R. K. Morse, and the body prepared for burial, where it was kept until
the day of the funeral on account of the ill health of the mother.
Deceased was a member of the church of Christ, and an exemplary young man of
sterling qualities, always taking interest in home duties, where his father and
mother, three brothers and two sisters survive, and deeply feel the loss of a
loved one. The funeral was very largely attended at the church Friday
afternoon, and the beautiful floral offerings show the high esteem of the
departed. Revs Kidwell and Barrow officiated. Burial in Mott

Pvt Daniel McKean Lilley (12/30/1843 - 1905)
He is the son of John and Lemira (McKean) Lilley. He is the husband of Nancy Elizabeth Randall.
McKean D. Lilley served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was assigned as a Private to Battery G, 112th Regiment, 2nd Heavy Artillery, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He enlisted for a term of three years. He was wounded at Petersburg on 1 June 1864. He was honorably discharged and received a pension.

On the morning of Saturday, July 18, 2015, Marsden Leon Matson
of Canton passed away quietly at Robert Packer Hospital with his family at
his side. He was 76 years of age. Born in Endicott, N.Y. on Feb. 28, 1939,
he was a son of Wesley D. and Phyllis "Posie" (June) Matson. Following high
school Marsden enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 1961 he
married Donna Mott, and together they raised four children and would have
celebrated 54 years this September. Throughout his adult life Marsden worked
at many tasks. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the
construction industry, was a truck owner-operator, owned Matson-Maris Garage
and Auto Sales in Canton, was the manager-operator of the Antrim Mining
Company, and was a truck driver for local businesses, most recently being
employed with BS Trucking in Canton. He also served as an officer with the
Canton Jaycees. He enjoyed fishing and spending special times with his
children and grandchildren, as well as with his canine companion, Ruby, the
company of his friends and his very best friend, his wife. He was also a man
with a deep, abiding faith in the Lord, and was a member of the Church of
Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton. He is survived by his wife, Donna,
at home; son Darin (and Kathryn) Matson of Franklin, Tenn.; daughters Renee
(and Anthony) Caringi of Glenside, Pa.; Colleen (and Dwight) Forrester of
Harrisburg, and Stephanie (and John) Erlston of Danville, Pa.; sister
Shirley (and Gary) Ritz of Troy, sister-in-law Issy Matson of Alba;
grandchildren Jill (and Jerome) Schram, Matthew May, Kaylie Matson, Anthony
Caringi, Grant Matson, Mackenzie Forrester, Alex Caringi, Kendra Case,
Madeline Caringi, Tayler Forrester, Jakob Forrester; great-grandchildren
Jacek and Niko Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and
"Posie", as well as his brother James Matson. Visitation will be 10 to 11:30
a.m., Saturday, July 25, at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center St.,
Canton. Service will be at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Josh Payne officiating.

Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1976 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda.She was born in
E. Troy on Jan. 21, 1896, the daughter of James and Julia Calkins LaMont.
Mrs. Mott was a member of the LeRoy Church of Christ Disciples. She is
survived by her husband, Wesley Mott; daughters, Mrs. Raymond Smithgall of
Canton, Mrs. Raymond Holcomb of LeRoy and Mrs. James Chadwick of Camptown; son,
Robert Mott of Troy; sister, Mrs. W. R. Croman of Troy; brother, Ralph LaMont

Betty Eileen (Bly) Mott (9/22/1925 - 1/19/2015)
Betty Eileen Bly Mott, 89, widow of the late Frank D. Mott Sr., passed away on
Monday, Jan. 19, 2015. Born in Millerton, Pa., she was the daughter of the
late Cora Mae Ford Bly and Rodney William Bly. Betty graduated from Canton
High School in 1943. She and Frank married in 1944. Betty was a member of
the Leroy, Pa. Church of Christ for 40 years where she was church pianist
for 20 years. Retiring to Florida in 1985, she and Frank were active members
of the Deltona, Fla. Christian Church. Betty returned to Pennsylvania in
2009. She is survived by her children, Jane Kulp (Newton) of Deltona, Fla.,
Marilyn Austin (Robert) of Orange City, Fla., Rodney Mott (Vicki) of Mount
Pleasant, S.C., and Michael Mott (Julie) of Gilbertsville, Pa.; 14
grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren also survive her. Betty is
predeceased by her husband, Frank D. Mott Sr., 2006; her son, Frank D. Mott
Jr., 1996; her sister, Margery Bly Lewis, 2005; and her brother, Rodney Bly,
1966. A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 11 a.m.
on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at the LeRoy Baptist Church in LeRoy, Pa., with
her nephew, Pastor Ronald Bly, officiating. Burial will be at a later date

Our beautiful mom, Blanche Gladys (Foust)
Mott, 92, went home to be with our Lord Jesus on April 30, 2009, while at the
Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda. Born in Granville Township on Feb. 19,
1917, she was the daughter of Joseph and Maude (SHOEMAKER) Foust and was a
graduate of Troy High School. She was a wonderful, gentle, loving wife and
mother, and an excellent cook. Mom was well known for her famous chocolate chip
cookies. Her greatest love was being with her family. We will all miss her
greatly. She is survived by: her children Donna (and Marsden) Matson,
Marcia (and Norman) Thomas, and Sally (and Theron) Binford; brother Joey (and
Ellen) Foust; sisters Norma Shedden, Betty (and Wilbur) Slingerland and Marie
(and Lewis) Seeley; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; as well as
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by: her
beloved husband Thomas; brother Teddy Foust; and grandson Tad Bagley.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday, May 4, at Victory Church in Troy.
Services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Pastor Josh Paine officiating.

Charles S. Mott, 84 of Canton, formerly of Leroy,
died, Dec. 6, 2001 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y. Born May
2, 1917, in Leroy, he was one of five children born to the late Samuel and
Helen Robinson Mott. Charles was a resident of Leroy area throughout most
of his life. He graduated from the Canton area schools in 1935 and later
obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree at Penn State University College of
Agriculture in 1939. Shortly following graduation, he married the love of
his life the former Grace Spencer on Nov. 10, 1943. The young couple
established their home in Leroy Twp. where they owned and operated a dairy
farm. In the mid 1960’s Charlie held the position of Penn Dot’s Principle
Assistant Superintendent of Highways for Bradford County. During the
1970’s, he worked for Stone Hill Construction. He then established C.
Mott Builders and worked as a self-employed contractor in home construction,
retiring in 1982. Mr. Mott attended the Canton Church of Christ
(Disciples of Christ). He was a member of the Local Order of the Moose
Canton Lodge No. 429, the Wheel Inn Club in Roaring Branch and was a former
member of Leroy’s Open Hand Grange No. 153. Charlie cherished his family
and always looked forward to times spent with his grandchildren. He
enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and was an avid fan of all sports, especially
Penn State Football. In earlier years, he coached Leroy Little League
Baseball and bowled with the Canton and East Canton Leagues. He is
survived by his wife of 58 years, Grace Mott at home; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Charlene (Frank) Corby of Elizabethtown, Pa.; Carol (Jim) Fitch of
Canton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Sam (Pat) Mott of Doylestown, Pa., Max
(Bev) Mott of Pekasie, Pa., The Honorable John C. (Brenda) Mott of Canton; 17
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Teribury
of Tyrone, Ga.; a brother and sister-in-law, frank (Betty) Mott of Deltona,
Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Adelaide “Ange” Mott of Palo Alto, Calif., Blanche
Mott of Canton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his
parents, Charles was predeceased by two brothers, Matthew and Thomas Mott and a
brother-in-law, Earl Teribury. The funeral and committal service will be
held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ)
with its pastor, Rev. David B. Morris officiating. The family invites friends
to call 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Pepper Funeral Home,
Springbrook Drive, Canton and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the
church. A private interment will be held at the Mott Cemetery, Leroy

Charlie E. Mott (5/8/1879 - 10/9/1904)
Our community was shocked last Monday
morning by the sad news that Charlie Mott, youngest son of Mrs. Lucinda Mott of
this place, had fallen down a gorge,, a distance of 140 feet, and instantly
killed, at Glady, West Virginia. He went there last spring to work for Campbell
brothers. It appears that Charlie and a friend were sitting on the edge of the
rocks and both fell asleep. His skull was crushed, but aside from that no other
bones were broken. The remains were brought to Canton Tuesday evening, and were
met by undertaker R. K. Morse and brought to the home of the deceased. The
funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the Disciple church, Rev. John Murphy
officiating. He was a member of the Baptist church, and the I.O.O.F., the
latter of which had charge of the burial service. There was a very large
concourse of relatives and friends. Burial in Mott cemetery. Besides a mother
he leaves one sister, Mrs. Kelsey Bellows, and three brothers, Alton, William

Frank Donald Mott, 86, of Pilgrim Ave., Deltona, FL
a retired Tool Room Supervisor for 25 years for Schrader-Bellows in Canton
died Monday September 18, 2006 at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange
City, FL. Mr. Mott was born in LeRoy and was a long time resident of
the Canton area and upon retirement in 1985 moved to Deltona. He was a
1939 graduate of Canton High School. Frank enjoyed traveling, bowling
and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Survivors include his beloved wife
of 62 years, Betty; daughters, Jane & Newton Kulp of Deltona, FL; Marilyn
and Robert Austin of Lowville, NY; sons; Rodney & Vicki Green Mott of Mt.
Pleasant, SC and Michael & Julie Shepard Mott of Gilbertsville, PA;
sister, Betty Teribury of Tyrone, GA; fourteen grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren. Mr. Mott was preceded in death by his son, Frank D. Mott
Jr. in 1996 and his brothers, Matthew, Thomas and Charles Mott. A memorial
service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2006 at LeRoy
Independent Baptist Church. There will be a private interment at Mott
Cemetery, LeRoy, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made
in Frank’s memory to the Deltona Christian Church Memorial Fund, 960 E.
Normandy Blvd., Deltona, FL. The Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295

Frank Donald Mott Jr. of Jacobus, York County, died at
2:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 1996, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of Carol H. (McNett) Mott. The couple had celebrated
their 20th wedding anniversary on March 6. Services were held on June 3
at the Salem United Church of Christ, Jacobus, with his pastor, Rev. Fred A.
Walthour, officiating. Burial was June 4 in the Mott Cemetery, LeRoy
Township, with Rev. Duane Taylor officiating at the graveside committal
service. A viewing was held June 4 at the Morse Kleese Funeral
Home. Mr. Mott was born December 6, 1949 in Canton, the son of Frank D. and
Betty E. (Bly) Mott, Sr., Deltona, FL. Mr. Mott was employed for 20 years
as a designer draftsman at Voith Hydro, York. He was a US Air Force
veteran of the Viet Nam conflict. He was a staff sergeant and was awarded
the Commendation Medal of Military Merit. He was a member of the Canton
VFW and was the Jacobus-Loganville-Springfield girls softball coach. A
member of the Salem United Church of Christ, Jacobus; he designed the stained
glass windows for the church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by
two daughters, Melissa H. Mott and Alicia E. Mott, both at home; two sisters,
Marilyn G. Austin, Lowville, NY and B. Jane Kulp, Deltona, FL; two brothers,
Rodney B. Mott, Blythesville, AR and Michael A. Mott, Kenneth Square.

Grace Spencer Mott, 90, of Canton, PA and former longtime resident of LeRoy,
died on Sunday evening, December 23, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira.
H. Grace Spencer was born on January 30, 1922 in Canton, the oldest of four
children of the late Charles and Ada (Hill) Spencer. She graduated from Canton
High School in 1940 and in 1943 graduated as a Registered Nurse from Robert
Packer Hospital’s School of Nursing. On November 10, 1943, Grace married
Charles S. Mott. They shared 58 years together and raised five children before
Charlie’s passing on December 6, 2001. Grace was employed as the Directress of
Nursing at the Troy Community Hospital for over 30 years. Very active in the
community, she enjoyed volunteering with the American Red Cross’s Blood Mobile
and LeRoy Township’s Election Board. She also was instrumental with the Canton
Senior Center’s "Peppi" Exercise Program. Grace enjoyed attending the
Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) for many years. She was a member
of Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, LeRoy Heritage Museum
Association, the Red Hatters Lady’s Club, a former member of the Open Hand
Grange and the Lady Rebekah Group. Grace was a devoted and caring person who
would offer her help to anyone in need. She will be lovingly remembered as a
good neighbor. A “community nurse” type, many would call on Grace with their
health questions. She was blessed with a strong constitution and remained
active all her life. Times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren were her favorite things to do. She also enjoyed
knitting and word puzzles. Surviving are her children, Sam (Linda) Mott of
Chalfont, PA, Charlene (Frank) Corby of Elizabethtown, PA, Carol (Jim) Fitch of
Troy, Max (Bev) Mott of Perkasie, PA and John C. (Brenda) Mott of Cogan
Station; 17 grandchildren, Thomas (Dawn) Mott, David (Jennifer) Mott, Stephen
(Katie) Mott, Leesa (Dennis) McIlhinney, Matthew Corby, Anthony Corby, Todd
(Deborah) Fitch, Travis (Jaime) Fitch, Alisha (Donald) Wambolt, Shonna (Joshua)

Matthew R. Mott, 57, of 16 Highland road, a certified public accountant, died yesterday in his home.
Services will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Christ and Holy Trinity Churcj,
Bridgeport with the Rev. Dana Forest Kenedy, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience
of the family. The Fable funeral home, 215 West State Street, is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Elmira, N.Y., Mr. Mott was a Westport resident for 18 years. He served as treasurer of Trinity
church for many years, and was also a member of the Westport Rotary club. Survivors are his wife,
Mrs. Adelaide P. Mott, of Westport; two sons, Matthew Mott, Jr., of Westport; and Leonard Mott of
Tusaun, Ariz.; three brothers, Thomas Mott, Charles Mott and Frank Mott, all of LeRoy, Pa.; a sister,

Max S. Mott of Hilltown, passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2015. He was 64.Born on
Oct. 30, 1950, in Canton, Pa., Max was one of five children of the late
Charles and Grace (Spencer) Mott. After graduating from Canton Area High
School, he obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering from Penn
State University. On March 6, 1971 he married the love of his life, Beverly
(Packard). They established their home in Bucks County, where they proudly
raised their four children. Max began his professional career with PKF
Construction. After 10 years, he left PKF to work with his brother, Sam, as
an owner and vice president of Stone Hill Contracting (SHC). After 25
successful years with SHC, he retired to fulfill his dream of traveling.
Above all, Max cherished times spent with his family; he was affectionately
known as the family photographer. He was a devoted grandfather, who always
enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Max was also an
extreme competitor, especially in horseshoes, ping pong, and golf. He
particularly loved to compete against his children and siblings. Max is
survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly Mott; four children Tami (Robert)
Shoemaker of Coopersburg, Pa., Bryan (Pamela) Mott of Quakertown, Pa., Becky
(Jesse Anderson) Dimmick of Hilltown, Pa., Charles (Adrienne) Mott of
Sellersville, Pa.; 12 grandchildren Brandie, Max, Bobby, Zach, Katey, CJ,
Lia, Joie, Gavin, Jarrett, Jianna, Kyla; two brothers and two sisters:

Thomas Mott, 97, of Leroy died Monday afternoon at the home of his
son Wesley in Leroy, March 16, 1959. He was a 50 year member of the Leroy
Church of Christ and Leroy Open Hand Grange. Mr. Mott is survived by one
son, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3
great-great-grandchildren. The body is at the Morse Funeral Home in
Canton. Private services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. The
Rev. Edgar Ginn of the Leroy Church officiated. Burial was in the Mott
Cemetery at Leroy.

Wesley Mott, 89, of the Hillcrest Apartments, Troy, formerly of
LeRoy, died at the Troy Community Hospital Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1983. Mr.
Mott was born July 22, 1893 in LeRoy, a son of Thomas and Mina Morse
Mott. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Dorothy) Smithgall
of Canton, Mrs. Raymond (Jean) Holcomb of LeRoy and Mrs. James (Mary Lou)
Chadwick of Camptown; one son, Robert Mott of Troy RD; 15 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Alma on Sept. 7,
1976 and by daughters, Bernice Holcomb in 1966 and Marian Holmes in 1962.
Funeral and committal services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Morse and
Kleese Funeral home, 40 N. Center St., Canton, with the Rev. Duane Taylor
officiating. Interment will be in the Mott Cemetery, LeRoy. Friends
may call at the funeral home Thursday from 1 until 2 p.m. Memorial
Donations may be directed to the LeRoy Church of Christ in Mr. Mott’s

Raymond Otto Smithgall (5/12/1916 - 2/22/1998)
Raymond Otto Smithgall, a long-time resident of Canton
died unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998 at the Williamsport Hospital.
He was 81 years of age. Born May 12, 1916 in Geneva, N.Y., Ray was the
eldest son, one of ten children in the family of Otto R. and Ina (Callahan)
Smithgall. The family relocated to Tioga County, Pa. where Ray attended
Wellsboro High School, graduating with the class of 1935. In the years
preceding the Second World War he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and attended
the Aviation Ground School in Elmira. Mr. Smithgall served his country
during the ensuing war as an Air Corps navigator.; However, during this
period not everything was tumult and strife for him. One shining aspect
of his life was his courtship with Dorothy Mott; they were united in holy
matrimony on June 27, 1942. After the war, the Smithgalls raised their
family in Canton and Ray became active as a community volunteer. He
served on the zoning board as well as the Canton Borough Authority and Shade
Tree Commission. For nearly three decades he was employed as a postal
worker, retiring from the Canton Post Office in the mid 1970s. Mr.
Smithgall was a man who gave of himself, whose kindness knew no bounds.
This was evident by his involvement in many charitable organizations. Ray
was a life member of Canton Lodge #415 Free and Accepted Masons, serving as the
treasurer, the Bradford County Shrine Club, a life member of the Ancient
Accepted Scottish Rite Consistory of the Valley of Williamsport, the Irem
Temple AAONMS Canton Lodge #429 Loyal Order of Moose, Canton Rotary Club and
the Troy American Legion Post #49, all of which are widely recognized for their
generosity to humanitarian causes. Mr. Smithgall also had a lifelong
relationship with his Lord and served for many years as an Elder in the former
First Presbyterian Church of Canton. When that congregation was absorbed
into the Canton Ecumenical Parish, he served as a member of the Administrative
Board. Ray was also a familiar figure at the Men’s Christian Fellowship
Breakfast at Our House Restaurant for many years. Ray liked to collect
modes of antique and classic cars and was an avid rail fan. He loved to
reminisce about the days when steam ruled the rails and told stories of the
times he’d hitch a ride to Elmira so that he could ride the midnight train back
home. Mr. Smithgall was a man devoted to his family, a loving husband,
father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by loved ones and his
community as well. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy at
home; his eldest son, Scott and wife, Julianne Smithgall of Wellsboro; his son,
Thomas and wife, Barbara Smithgall of Lancaster; his daughter, Mary Beth and
husband, Thomas Schoonover of Canton; grandchildren, Maren and Cameron
Smithgall of Wellsboro, Emily and Ian Smithgall of Lancaster, Eric and Lauren
Schoonover of Canton. He is also survived by brothers, Kenneth Smithgall
of Leesburg, Fla., Frederick, Robert and Donald Smithgall, all of Wellsboro;
sisters, Dorothy Morgan of Williamsport, Betty Jean Beck and Katherine Sease,
both of Wellsboro. He was predeceased by a brother, William Smithgall and
a sister, Clarabell Bowen. A memorial service will be held at the Canton
Ecumenical Parish, 43 N. Center St., Canton, Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11:30 a.m.
with the Rev. Nancy Lee Goff, his pastor officiating. A Masonic service
will proceed at 11:15, conducted by Canton Lodge #415 F and AM. Interment
will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be directed to
the Green Free Library of Canton and the Canton Ecumenical Parish.

Earl E. Teribury, Jr., 68, of Tyrone, Ga., formerly
of Troy, Pa. died Monday, Sept. 25, 1995 at Crawford Long Memorial Hospital,
Atlanta, Ga. He was born Feb. 17, 1927 in Ralston, Pa. the son of Earl
and Mae Dunbar Teribury. He was a graduate of Troy High School class of
1944. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II. Following
a long career in industrial management, he retired from a position as a
vocational technical school instructor in South Carolina and Georgia. He
is survived by: his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Mott Teribury; daughter and
son-in-law, Helen Mae and Charles Binford of Troy; sons and daughters-in-law,
Earl and Nancy Teribury of RR 2, Troy, Tom and Katie Teribury of Tyrone, Ga.,
Eric and Linda Teribury of Stockbridge, Ga.; eight grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Philip McClure of
Lake Helen, Fla., Phyllis and Harold Foster of Summerfield, Fla., Janice and
Richmond Young of Bird in Hand, Pa., Carolyn and Clifton Welch of Elmira, N.Y.,
Shirley and Gerald Brown of Clover, S.C.; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Vickery Funeral home in Troy on Friday from 1-2
p.m. The funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home
with the Rev. Lawrence Holman officiating. Burial will be in Mott

Elizabeth "Betty" (Mott) Teribury (9/30/1926 - 3/26/2017)
ELIZABETH "BETTY" TERIBURY of Tyrone, GA and formerly of Leroy, PA has
passed away on March 26, 2017 at the age of 90. She was born Flora Elizabeth
Mott on September 20, 1926. She was the last of five children of Samuel and
Helen Mott of Leroy. Elizabeth was a member of the Canton High School class
of 1944. She is survived by her four children; Helen Binford of Troy, PA,
Earl Teribury of Troy, PA Thomas Teribury of Senoia, GA and Eric Teribury of
Newborn, GA as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great
grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her final resting place will be
alongside her husband, Earl E. Teribury in the Mott Family Cemetery, Leroy.
A memorial service in her honor will be made at a later date.
